This classic peach cobbler recipe is as simple and as tried and true as it comes. For our first recipe on Peaches and Bulldogs we knew it had to be two things: include peaches and be delicious. We also wanted our first recipe post to be a classic that’s been made countless time and always hits the spot. Southern Living first published this recipe in 1997 and since then we have been making it their way.
This summer, if you plan on hosting a cookout, this classic peach cobbler is perfect as a dessert star for a Memorial Day or Fourth of July cookout. Everyone will rave about it and ask for more. However, you can make this homemade peach cobbler on any random Sunday (or any day of the week) for a sweet treat, just as long as you have a few fresh peaches on hand. This homemade peach cobbler is so easy to make and always a sweet treat.
The topping can made from pantry ingredients you have on hand and peaches can easily be substituted if out of season. You don’t need to wait until peach season to make a fruit cobbler, just use any seasonal fruit that you love in place of peach slices if you don’t have fresh peach slices available.

How to:
Step 1
Melt the butter in a baking dish. Southern Living recommends 13-x 9-inch baking dish.
A few of our favorite red, white and black baking dishes are featured below! We especially love the versatility of the cerise red Le Creuset baking dish since it comes with a lid and of course the Georgia bulldog red is always a win in our book.
Step 2
Combine flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt followed by the milk. Stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Pour batter over butter, but do not stir it.
Step 3
Bring remaining 1 cup sugar, peeled peach slices, and lemon juice to a boil. Stir constantly over high heat. Pour the mixture over batter, but do not stir it. Sprinkle with cinnamon
Step 4
Bake the cobbler at 375° Fahrenheit for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Serve cobbler warm or cool. We like it best served warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream!
Enjoy!
